I finally got a chance to sit down with Migel since our unveiling of his "De Memoria" here at the Blakbook Art Gallery. I have to admit, this guy is interesting. He has a very fluid chaotic process of thought. It works. It's genuine and forthcoming. With that being said let me let him introduce himself.
Migel: I'm originally born in Burley, Idaho. 3rd generation migrant farmer. Everybody in my family decided to go into the military so I went to college instead. My parents never anticipated I would even graduate from high school and I've been proving people wrong along the way. They told me I couldn't do art because it wasn't a field to make money. So I decided that looking at what's goin on in the world you gotta get rid of the idea of making money.
Blakbook:So why don't you describe your artform to me...
Migel:I started off doing drawing and painting. [Then] I was doing a lot of research into this thing called semiotics the study of signs...
You can catch the full interview in the next issue of Blakbook coming soon! Don't forget to come in and actually see Migel's Installation. 1708 Main St Boise Blakbook Gallery.
