New Day

"When I wake up
I look into the mirror
I can see a clearer
vision
I should start livin today
cause today's gonna be the day
the day's gonna be the day..." (Patty Cash)

"Sunday morning plan my day out
whole new blueprint brand new lay out
deep down still don't know if it'll play out
before the first time it feels like I done found a way out
skin gettin clearer and it feels like I lost weight
stop and say a prayer for the times I lost faith
troubles of the world had me in a crawl space
chicken wing sickening livin so off base
but now it's like I'm in the last lap of the car chase
and I finally understand my right to choose
my preacher man told me it can always be worse
even a three legged dog has three legs to lose
so you can stop and refresh the rules
breath in breath out let it heal all your exit wounds
somethin inside said that that's the move
and maybe today I'll restart fresh and new" (Phonte)

The Day performed by The Roots on the album How I Got Over

I think this is a great opener to the year. The words of this song are from an album that I would seriously consider album of the year. The Roots are an excellent act for "adult" fans of Hip-Hop. If you haven't gotten it, get it ;)

A little art for ya

I was put onto a dope graf squad by a good friend of mine. The DF Crew is legendary. I pulled a few of their extra nice pieces from fatcap.com. Give it a look. You won't be disappointed.

In case you haven't noticed, I have an in-house photographer. Louis Cadang has found his passion and it is photography. I'm not mad. He's really good at it. He has his own style and flare for his chosen profession. If you're ever interested in having photos done (family, portrait, or any reason) hit Louis up. You cannot go wrong with him. Email him at lcadang@gmail.com for any questions that you have.

Chick-fil-A Arrives

Blakbook Studio presents our first culinary arts review...

Entering the Boise State SUB my dining partners and I were greeted by several students carrying overstuffed bags with the red Chick-Fil-A logo staring us in the face. We turned the corner and screeched to a stop due to a hoard of Chick-Fil-A crazed maniacs. The line moved fast despite a few logistical snafu’s concerning a slow waffle-fry cook and spicy chicken sandwiches that had been oversold.

The menu is small due to the fact that it is an “Express” version of the famous chicken chain. Three sandwiches, chicken nuggets, a salad, and various dessert options insure speedy delivery. Our party ordered a cross sampling (minus the spicy chicken sandwich to my chagrin) of items. I ordered the classic chick-filet, deliciously breaded and fried chicken breast on a bun with pickles, if I were to speculate, I would say the bun is grilled in mayo…fantastic. Waffle fries are a must so we ordered two servings. Trini had the grilled chicken sandwich because he is concerned that he’s getting fat (which he is) I found his selection lack luster, limp lettuce and under ripe tomato has never been my forte. Mr. Cadang ordered the 8 piece nugget, upon opening the box he promptly stood up, proclaiming the greasy nature of the entrĂ©e(duh…they fry them in oil) and went in search of a fork. He returned with wooden coffee stirrers because no forks could be found. Chop-sticking the first nugget into his mouth with the make-shift coffee utensils he voiced his opinion once again, too salty he claimed. I will validate the excessive saltiness, there is not enough chicken to breading due to the small size of the nuggets.

A smorgasboard of sauces was set out in front of us for dipping pleasure, BBQ, Honey Mustard, Chick-Fil-A sauce(a mixture of BBQ and honey mustard that is surprisingly tasty), buffalo sauce, and honey mustard. The house sauce was unanimously the favorite. All-in-All the entire meal, including three medium sized soft drinks came to 18.49, being about average for the usual fast food experience.

Throwback track of the week. Hip-Hop in it's purest form. I love these horns. Great story telling. Everything you could want to chill to.

Dia De Los Muertos

Here is an altar that Bobby created for the Dia De Los Muertos exhibition at the Idaho Historical Museum in Julia Davis Park right in the middle of Boise. I recommend checking it out in person. It's pretty impressive.

Jay-Z = Hellboy??

So... This has been brewing for a while already but I have to comment on it briefly. Here's a rundown. Jay-Z dissed Hammer on Kanye's track "So Appalled" He did it cause Hammer runs around callin him "hellboy" or other things like that. This possibly stems from the whole Illuminati accusations coming from all directions at Jay-Z. (sidenote... I remember DMX talking about Jay-Z not putting any soul into his music.) Either way, I'm not sure exactly why it would matter that Hammer would go at Jay-Z. Don't you think Jay is a little beyond Hammer at this point in their careers?
